Get the real-time status of your HDFC Bank credit card by simply visiting the official HDFC Bank website. You just need to put your credit card application reference number, date of birth etc. and follow a few simple steps and you are done with the credit card application status. You would get to know the status, whether the application is approved, pending for approval or rejected. You can even call the customer care or the HDFC bank branch officials to check the status.
Now, the credit card application status can be anything from approval, pending for approval or even rejected. Do ask the reasons for your credit card application rejection if it has happened.
You can either call the branch officials or the customer care executives to know the reasons or you can write an e-mail to the customer care executives. If you can remove the discrepancy in your credit card application, do so and apply again to get an approval.
The credit limit will be determined by HDFC Bank depending on the income, credit score, job or business stability along with other factors. So, to get a higher credit score limit, it’s important to have a decent income and have a good credit score well past 750. It is also important to have a stability in either your job or business. Add-on card members will have the same limit as the primary cardholder.
The credit limit and cash withdrawal limit will be communicated to the cardholder at the time of card delivery and in the monthly statements. The available credit limit at the time of the statement generation is provided as part of the monthly statement.
Existing cardholders can get good credit limit by asking HDFC Bank to raise the credit limit by writing to the bank and providing financial documents declaring their income. After receiving the request of limit enhancement, HDFC Bank will check the repayment pattern, employment, business details and the new income document provided before coming to a decision of whether it will raise the credit limit or not.
A good credit limit or a higher credit limit does not mean that you should spend an excessive amount which will be more than your ability to pay back on time. Over-spending and failure to make a payment by the due date can create a default-like situation in which the creditors might raise interest rates to the default (or penalty rate) or decrease the line of credit. In case of serious defaulting on a credit card, the bank can even take legal action to enforce payment.
This is not a situation anybody would want to be in as default is a serious credit card issue that affects not only your standing with the credit card issuer but also your credit standing in general and your ability to get approved for other credit-based services. The reasons are obvious, the credit score would come down, which could make it tricky to gain an easy approval to the credits you may apply in the future.
In addition, you would struggle to meet other financial liabilities that you may have to carry out on a monthly basis.
At the same time, don’t be too less on the utilization as that would make it hard to build a credit history for you and would interfere with your good credit score. So, you need to strike a balance between the annual spends to ensure a proper credit utilization ratio, translating into a good credit history and a non-default situation.
HDFC Bank will send you a monthly statement showing the payments credited and the transactions debited to your account since the last statement. The bank will mail a statement of transactions in your account every month on a pre-determined date to the provided mailing address.
If the outstanding balance is less than Rs 200 and there is no further transaction pending since the last statement, then no statement will be issued by the bank.
HDFC Bank Credit Cards offers you the facility of revolving credit. You can pay only the Minimum Amount Due printed on the statement. The balance outstanding can be carried forward to subsequent statements. You can also pay the Total Amount Due or any part of the amount above the Minimum Amount Due. Such payment should be made before the Payment Due Date.
You are advised to drop local cheques well in advance of the payment due date to ensure that the payment reflects on the card account within the payment due date. Any unpaid minimum amount due of the previous statements will be added to your current Minimum Amount Due in addition to the outstanding balance exceeding your credit limit.
Payments made towards the card outstanding are acknowledged in subsequent statements. Payments received against your card outstanding will be adjusted against all taxes, fees and other charges, interest charges, cash advances and purchases in that particular order.
Bill payment towards the card account may be made in any of the following ways:
